sp500 Heatmap — RS Rating × Minervini Trend Score

“I had learned from experience that my most difficult problem was to discipline myself not to sell a rising stock too quickly.”
(Nicolas Darvas)

KOLの視点KOL Take

Cutting losses became routine for me once it was a rule. Holding a rising stock is the harder discipline, because selling early feels like prudence even when it is only fear.

Core Principle

Darvas had already accepted being wrong about half the time and handled that side with an automatic stop. That left the arithmetic: with only half the trades working, the gains have to be bigger than the losses or the method goes nowhere. Selling a rising stock early attacks exactly that. It feels prudent, banking something before it slips away, but it trims the trades that were meant to pay for all the small losses. The fix is instructive. He did not claim to have conquered the fear. He admitted he could not, and moved the decision out of its reach: hold the rising stock and keep raising the stop behind it.

Trading Application

So rely on structure rather than willpower, as he did: hand the exit to a stop that trails the advance at a distance ordinary swings should not reach, and let that, not the size of the open gain, make the call. It will give back part of every move. That is the fee for not guessing the top, something Darvas said nobody does consistently. The takeaway: let the stock’s behavior end the trade, not your nerves about the gain.
