Wyckoff’s line reads harshly, but I take it as accountability rather than blame: the market bills you for your judgment, and a loss is the invoice. The only loss truly wasted is the one you paid for and never read.

Calling a loss bad luck is comforting and expensive, because it disables the only feedback loop a trader has. Wyckoff is not saying every loss is an error — a loss taken exactly where you planned is a cost of doing business, and no method avoids those. The losses worth studying are the other kind: the ones that grew past the plan. Those almost always trace back to a decision you can name — a rule bent, a size too large, a thesis you had stopped testing. Only one of those two categories can be fixed, which is why sorting them matters more than regretting them.

記録をつけ、負けたトレード一つひとつに対して、それを生んだ決定を一文で書き留めておくこと。中には、正直に「計画どおりにやったが、うまくいかなかった」としか書けないものもある——それらはそのままにしておいていい。残りは、自分が実際に行った具体的なことを名指ししているはずで、そのリストこそが自分が持つ最も価値のある資料になる。結論:自分が支払った損失と、自分が引き起こした損失を切り分けよ。何かを教えてくれるのは、後者だけだからだ。
Keep a record, and against every losing trade write the decision that produced it in one plain sentence. Some will honestly read: followed the plan, the trade did not work. Leave those alone. The rest will name a specific thing you did, and that list is the most valuable document you own. The takeaway: separate the losses you paid for from the losses you caused, because only the second kind teaches you anything.
