“Stocks that turn into great trades rarely drop back below the original breakout point.”
(Stan Weinstein)

This one reads backwards. Holding the breakout level promises me nothing, but losing it removes a property that nearly every trade worth having shares — and that is the more useful half of the observation.
Core Principle
Read the direction of the claim, because it only runs one way. Weinstein describes what great trades tend to do, and the valuable part is what that does not license. Winners rarely give the level back; it does not follow that a stock holding it is a winner. Plenty hold it and go nowhere. So the evidence is asymmetric: losing the level argues strongly against the trade you thought you had, while keeping it argues only weakly for it. That asymmetry tells you which observation deserves to change your behaviour. And note the hedge: rarely is not never. A stock that slips below has not been sentenced, but it has spent the clearest evidence it was offering you.
Trading Application
Keep the breakout level marked after you enter, not only before. It was the reason the position exists, and it keeps reporting for as long as you hold. Decide in advance what losing it means on your timeframe — a close below rather than a touch — and let that count against the trade without waiting for a larger decline to agree. The takeaway: the level is evidence that keeps arriving, and it can only ever speak clearly against you.
