jpx400 Heatmap — RS Rating × Minervini Trend Score

“Before a dancer leaps into the air he goes into a crouch to set himself for the spring. I found it was the same with stocks.”
(Nicolas Darvas)

KOLの視点KOL Take

The sideways stretch that bores everyone out of a stock is often where the next move is being built

— but only when the pause looks like a stock gathering itself, rather than one running out of

interest.

Core Principle

Darvas’s image reframes what most traders treat as dead time. A stock that has advanced and then

goes quiet looks like nothing is happening, and his observation is that the quiet is where the next

move gets assembled. Holders who want out get their chance, the range tightens, and the stock is

set. The metaphor carries its own warning, which is the part usually dropped. A crouch precedes a

leap because the dancer is loading for one. A stock drifting sideways with no advance behind it and

no contraction inside it is not crouching, it is standing still. What separates the two is visible

on the chart: a real move in, a range that narrows rather than widens, activity that quiets rather

than deteriorates.

Trading Application

Judge a consolidation by what led into it and by whether it is tightening. A stock that came up on

strong participation and is now quietly compressing behaves like Darvas’s dancer; one that has gone

sideways for months without ever having moved is simply flat. The takeaway: patience during a pause

is only worth spending when the stock is visibly setting up for something.
