jpx400 Heatmap — RS Rating × Minervini Trend Score

“If there’s even a 1 percent chance of ruin, it’s an unacceptable risk.”
(Mark Minervini)

KOLの視点KOL Take

I stopped judging the risk of ruin one trade at a time, because I will never take only one trade. A one-in-a-hundred risk, repeated across a career, is not unlikely; it is a matter of time.

Core Principle

Notice what the sentence leaves out: there is no reward side. Most trading decisions are rightly judged on expected value: a setup is worth repeating when, across many tries, its wins outweigh its losses. Ruin is the exception, because it ends the repetition. A loss that takes you out of the game cannot be averaged against trades you never get to make, so no payoff can justify it. Minervini’s reasoning is simple: nobody makes one trade, and over a career it is hundreds, often thousands. At a one percent chance each time, the odds of getting through seventy such exposures are roughly a coin flip. Small per trade is not small per career.

Trading Application

Ruin does not require a single reckless bet. It can arrive as ordinary sizing meeting an ordinary losing streak. So test the size against the streak rather than the single trade: add up the losses from a longer run of stop-outs than you have ever had, and check that what remains is an account you could still trade properly. The takeaway: size for the losing streak you hope never comes, because across enough trades one eventually does.
