sp500 Heatmap — RS Rating × Minervini Trend Score

“Discipline is a much-talked-about attribute for traders and that means knowing when to be patient enough to wait for opportunities as much as it means following rules.”
(Brian Shannon)

KOLの視点KOL Take

Discipline gets talked about as the part of me that says no. Half of it is the waiting — the other half is moving when the wait is finally over.

Core Principle

Discipline has a public reputation as restraint, the set of rules that stop you doing something. Shannon puts equal weight on the other half: the patience to wait for opportunities worth having. Both halves are demanding, and they fail in different ways. Rule-following collapses under the pressure to act. Patience collapses under boredom, either into forcing something mediocre or into drifting so far from the market that you are no longer ready when the real thing arrives. That second failure disguises itself well, because from the outside it looks identical to discipline — nothing is being done in either case. The difference is what the waiting is for. Waiting counts as discipline only if it ends in a decision once your conditions are met.

Trading Application

Keep a list of the setups you passed on that later met every condition you had written down in advance. A short list means your patience is doing its job; a long one means it has quietly turned into avoidance. The takeaway: judge your discipline by both halves — what you declined, and what you took when it was time.
