sp500 Heatmap — RS Rating × Minervini Trend Score

“Your stock is only worth the price of the last print on the tape. It’s an asset that can be sold any time the market is open.”
(Stan Weinstein)

KOLの視点KOL Take

My cost basis is a receipt, not a valuation. The position is worth what it just traded at, and since

I can sell it in any session I choose, holding it is a decision I am making again today rather than

a situation I am stuck in.

Core Principle

Weinstein is removing a comfort, not adding a technique. A loss that has not been sold gets called a

paper loss, as though the number were still provisional, but the market has already settled it. Your

entry price is a receipt for something you did, not a statement about what you now own. The second

sentence does the harder work. Because the position can be sold whenever the market is open, holding

it is not a condition you are trapped in; it is a choice you renew every session. There is no such

thing as passively owning a stock.

Trading Application

That replaces a stale question with a useful one. Instead of asking whether the stock will return to

what you paid — a number the market has never heard of — ask whether you would put this money into

this position at today’s price. If the answer is no, you are holding for a reason that has nothing

to do with the position. The takeaway: you already own it at today’s price, so the only live

decision is whether you would choose to.
