“I am a trend trader, so I want to be certain that the trend is in my favor in all timeframes.”
(Brian Shannon)
KOLの視点KOL Take
A trend that only exists on the chart I happen to prefer is not confirmation, it is a preference
in confirmation’s clothing. When the timeframes disagree, the disagreement is the information.
Core Principle
Every chart is a sampling choice. The same stock can be an uptrend on the weekly, a pullback on
the daily and a slide on the hourly — all three accurate about different windows of time. The
trouble starts when traders pick the window that agrees with the position they already want and
call the result analysis. Shannon’s requirement removes the picking: alignment has to exist across
timeframes before the trade qualifies, so the chart cannot be chosen to fit the thesis. When the
windows genuinely disagree, that is not noise to filter away — it usually means one group of
participants is still supplying another, and the argument is unsettled.
Trading Application
Before committing, check at least one timeframe above the one you trade and one below. If you
trade daily bars, the weekly should already agree; if you enter intraday, the daily should. Where
they conflict, either wait for the shorter chart to come into line or treat the position as the
exception it is and size it that way. The takeaway: one timeframe is an opinion, agreement across
several is evidence.
